Time Standards

Time Standards

We just can’t get away from the fact that our swimmers will constantly be compared to different time standards. These pages are here to help you find the different time standards (some of which are qualifying times for meets) and the ODAC Time Standard Patch Form. Please use the information below, as well as the time standards, to determine whether your child is eligible for Time Standard patches before printing filling out the form.

ODAC proudly distributes patches to those who earn their first time standard in any stroke. It is a way of awarding progress after individual achievement. While the swimmer should always have stroke technique improvement foremost in his/her mind, the patches are a symbol of the development of skills over a period of time. Over time, the development of the swimmer in the water far outweighs any awards given out of the water. As the swimmer develops, the skills he/she learns and the time standards become more difficult to master. As our swimmers graduate to new levels of achievement he/she will receive a sense of accomplishment from within. As the swimmers age, they will continue to be awarded patches for breaking new ground as they achieve time standards that they have not achieved before. Only swimmers in the Age Group Program are eligiable for a time standard patch.

Patches are available for B,BB,A,AA,AAA and AAAA times. These NAG (National Age Group) time standards have been established by United States Swimming as a fair estimation of the ability of a swimmer in each event in their age group. The time standards are available by clicking the links below.

After each meet, we proudly post our results on the ODAC web site. This is a good way to determine if you’ve earned a time standard patch. However, not every event published on the web site earns a new patch...only the first one of each stroke (for example, you don’t get six freestyle patches for getting the BB in the 50, 100, 200, 500, 1000 and 1650 free even if you get the standards at six different meets). But, if you go from B to AAAA, you could get six different freestyle patches (one for each time standard).

To receive a time standard patch, simply complete a time standard patch request form by printing it out from the website, or get one from the file in the mailboxes at the pool and return it to your coach’s mailbox.
